#scars - procedures and treatments that can be done at the doctor's office

Some non-invasive procedures performed by dermatologists at their offices can be very satisfactory to improve or soften scars. The success of these treatments will depend on the type of scar (large, dark, reddish, flat or raised surface, keloid) and its causes (burns, cuts, complication of severe acne, etc). Skin color and the duration of the scar also interfere in the process.

Today, with the global use of laser equipments, we can reach excellent results in most cases, often eliminating totally the scar. But we must not forget that the response to treatments are always very individual.

The most positive results in the treatment of scars depends on a good combination of techniques, eg, to correct signs of deep acne and burns, the fractionated lasers (Fraxel or CO2) are usually the most used. But if the scar is very atrophic, application of fillers should be associated. On the other hand, peelings at the end of the treatment are useful to correct some color change.

It's always good to highlight that more recent the scar, better the results. The use of gels or ointments on silicone basis in the acute phase of healing contributes positively to the final result. Also in the acute phase, ie during the first year after the event that caused the scar, carboxitherapy and intra-dermal injections of corticosteroids will ensure successful outcomes.
